Lin-Manuel not only led the original production of In The Heights but also wrote the music and lyrics, with a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes, who wrote the film.

The original show, which won best musical and best score at the Tonys, is a slice-of-life show about a Hispanic neighborhood in Washington Heights.

As seen in the trailer, the film version has been edited to reflect the state of immigration politics in the present time.

‘They wanna kick out all the Dreamers,’ goes one of the added lines in the film. ‘It’s time to make some noise.’

Telenovela star Melissa Barrera plays Usnavi’s love interest Vanessa, with Leslie Grace as Nina, who is hiding from her parents that she dropped out of Stanford.

Corey Hawkins, who played Heath on The Walking Dead and Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton, stars as Nina’s forbidden love Benny.

During one of the most dazzling moments of the trailer, Benny and Nina can be seen dancing with each other up the side of a building at sunset.

The moment appears to be taken from When The Sun Goes Down, a romantic duet between the pair late in the second act of the show.

In an exciting move for Broadway fans, the role of indomitable barrio elder Abuela Claudia has gone to Olga Merediz who originated it on the Great White Way.

‘We had to assert out dignity in small ways, little details that tell the world we are not invisible,’ says Abuela in the trailer.

Jon M. Chu of Crazy Rich Asians fame is directing the new In The Heights adaptation, which hits movie theaters June 26 next year.

The trailer offers glimpses of more intimate numbers, including Usnavi leaping over the counter of the drugstore he works in and bantering with customers.

Viewers also catch snatches of more elaborate production numbers that involve large ensembles dancing joyously in the street.

The movie’s star-studded cast includes Orange Is The New Black alum Dasha Polanco and Brooklyn Nine-Nine actress Stephanie Beatriz.

In The Heights began Lin-Manuel’s fusion of hip-hop and Broadway, a combination that made him a massive international celebrity with Hamilton.

The original Broadway cast of Hamilton featured Anthony as Philip, the son of the title character portrayed by Lin-Manuel.
