Kanye West and Jay-Z back on friendly terms two years after Tidal lawsuit

Kanye West and Jay-Z are back on friendly terms, two years after a lawsuit with Tidal left their relationship on the rocks.

The Jesus Walks rapper, 42, reportedly claimed his pal’s streaming service owed him $3 million following the exclusive release of The Life of Pablo in 2016, before eventually parting ways from the subscription platform in 2017 after a two-year deal.

But it now appears all has been forgiven as the Los Angeles-based musician dropped his Nebuchadnezzar on Tidal last month, before the talented duo reunited at Diddy’s star-studded 50th birthday party on Saturday.

A source told TMZ: ‘They quietly reached an agreement in the Tidal lawsuit earlier this year.

‘They’re both satisfied with the outcome and they’re moving forward. There will be future collabs for Kanye and Tidal, too.’

Kanye and Jay-Z, 50 – who have both admitted their friendship has been frosty in the past – appeared in great spirits as they partied with the music industry’s finest for Diddy’s lavish birthday party over the weekend.

MailOnline has contacted Kanye and Jay-Z’s representatives for further comment.

The pair first forged a close bond when the husband of Kim Kardashian was recruited as a producer for the music mogul’s Roc-A-Fella Records in the late 90’s.

In 2007, media personality Kanye praised his fellow rapper as a ‘mentor, colleague and idol’ in his Big Brother single from his chart-topping album Graduation.

Dominating the industry further, the artists performed their collaborative tracks on their American and European tour – which kicked off at Atlanta’s Philips Arena in October 2011 and ended at the LG Arena in Birmingham in June 2012.

Their Watch The Throne tour – which was originally scheduled for just 23 performances and later expanded to 34 performances – grossed a whopping $40 million.

Two years later, New Yorker Jay-Z shed the details of their working relationship, admitting that while there were benefits of their collaboration, teaming up with Ye proved difficult.

He told Zane Lowe in a BBC interview back in July 2013: ‘[Our relationship is a] big brother thing and a respect thing. It's always a good experience.

‘He's going to challenge everything because he's really trying to test it and poke holes to make sure that it stands up. I admire that. It kind of works for me.’

The record executive raised eyebrows when he and wife Beyoncé failed to attend Kanye’s wedding to Kim, 39, in May 2014.

Hinting at the reason behind their absence on Friends from their Everything is Love album, the Can’t Knock the Hustle hitmaker spoke about the importance of prioritising his relationship with his wife, 38, after admitting he was unfaithful.

The lyrics include: ‘I ain't going to nobody for nothin' when me and my wife beefin, I don't care if the house on fire, I'm dyin', n****, I ain't leavin’.

Kanye later admitted he was offended by their actions, and said in an interview with Charlamagne Tha God last year: ‘I was hurt about them not coming to the wedding.

‘I understand they were going through some things, but if it's family, you're not going to miss a wedding.’

He also hit out at his on-off friend for not reaching out to his family when KUWTK star Kim, 39, was robbed at gunpoint in October 2016.

During his Saint Pablo tour in Seattle West, he told the crowd: ‘Call me, bruh! You still ain't calling me! JAY-Z, call me! Aye, bruh, I know you got killers, please don't send them at my head! Just call me! Talk to me like a man!’

The new gospel singer later raged at his Sacramento performance: ‘Call me, bruh! You still ain't calling me! JAY-Z, call me! Aye, bruh, I know you got killers, please don't send them at my head! Just call me! Talk to me like a man!’

Despite Kanye’s outbursts, Jay-Z hailed Kanye as his younger brother during David Letterman's Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, which first aired in April 2018.

He explained: ‘That's my brother. We're beyond friends. Like literally, my little brother is Kanye. And like your little brother, things happen sometimes.’
