Elton John thanks his fans in Christmas video message

He’s an international superstar with millions of fans.

But Elton John, 72, proved he is his own biggest fan, sharing a festive Instagram video message dedicated to his achievements in 2019.

The video, posted on Wednesday, was just over a minute-and-a-half long and was uploaded with the caption ‘Merry Christmas‘ and a series of emojis, including a rocket one.

‘Merry Christmas everybody, and thank you for making 2019 probably the most successful year of my career’, he began his message.

‘Wow, at 72 years of age, I’m blown away.’

One of the biggest pop stars of all time, Elton John has been active for over 50 years.

His current tour, called Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, started last September and, upon completion, will have comprised of over 300 shows – bringing his illustrious career to an end.

‘First of all you have all supported the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour so well it is breaking box office records everywhere, thank you,’ he said of the extravaganza.

He then moved on to his autobiography and Rocketman, the latter of which was a huge box office success.

‘Rocketman came out in the spring and got incredible reviews, and did incredibly well, Thank you.

‘Me, my autobiography came out in the autumn and did incredibly well, thank you,’ he said.

Elton was placed first in the 125 top artists of all time by Billbaord this year, having charted 57 songs (including nine No. 1s) in the Billboard Hot 100's top 40.

‘And if that wasn’t enough to make you question your own success of 2019, I was named in Billboard the number one male artist of all time, which I cannot believe, thank you Billboard for that. Wow,’ he continued.

His success didn’t stop there. In June, the star was awarded France’s highest civilian award, the Legion d’Honneur, by President Emmanuel Macron.

‘And in the middle of the year I got the Legion d’Honneur in Paris from President Macron, which is the highest honour you can get artistically in France, I was blown away.

‘Thank you President Macron, and the French people,’ he said.

But he said all of that would not matter without his fans. He continued: ‘But to you guys who are my fans, you’ve been amazing all year.

‘You have come to the show you have dressed up, you’ve come along and had a great time and you’ve made me feel so happy every time I come on stage.

‘I’m having a little break right now over Christmas, hence the hat, but I’m off to the Golden Globes on the 5 January, where we’re nominated for three awards for Rocketman, so keep your fingers very tightly crossed and hope that we can come away with at least one award.
